Get Telegram Chat ID (Private vs Group)

Telegram requires a chat_id to determine where messages should be delivered.

• Private chat: positive integer (e.g. 123456789)
• Group / Supergroup: negative ID, usually starting with -100

How to obtain the Chat ID:

• Add the bot to the chat or group
• Send a message in that chat
• Open:
  https://api.telegram.org/bot<TOKEN>/getUpdates
• Extract chat.id from the response

Group note: The bot must be added to the group and the group must have activity before the Chat ID appears.
